About the Book :-The book is the product of extensive research and thorough work on Nepal. He has drawn a beautiful sketch of Nepal by offering the progress made by it under its various kings. The work is in 2 volumes. The first volume contains the inward and outward politics of the land from when it grew into a national entity. He examines Nepal in the political, religious and historical context vis à vis the reality of the twentieth century. Nepal – which he describes as full of antiquities and relics of the past – is unique because it has never suffered the repercussions of the Christian or the Moslem expansion. In vol. II, he concentrates on the people and politics of the land. The towns, rulers, races and architecture of Nepal are dwelt upon by the author as seen through his discerning eyes of a journalist. He examines the role of Buddhism in Nepal, and taking Asoka's dictum as his foundation, gives us an incontrovertible basis on which to build. The book has 191 illustrations and 5 maps and 2 genealogical chants of the royal family and the Rama family which arouses lot of interest amongst readers. About the Author :- Perceval Landon was an English writer, traveller and journalist, now best remembered for his classic and much reprinted ghost story "Thurnley Abbey". His best known non-fiction work is The opening of Tibet (1905), which he wrote after joining the British expedition to Tibet in 1903–1904; the book is subtitled "an account of Lhasa and the country and people of central Tibet and of the progress of the mission sent there by the English government in the year 1903-4". He was also the author of a book of 13 original short stories, Raw Edges, published by William Heinemann, London, in 1908, with lithograph illustrations by Alberto Martini. The most successful and enduring of these stories was Thurnley Abbey; but also included were psychological suspense stories Railhead and The Gyroscope (which is about a horrifying juggernaut running amok in a crowded auditorium).
