Natsamrat

‘नटसम्राट’ या नाटकाने प्रत्येक मराठी नाट्यरसिकाच्या मनात घर केले आहे. शेक्सपिअरच्या ‘किंग लियर’ने शिरवाडकरांच्या लेखनाला चलना दिली असली तरी त्यानंतर त्यांच्या प्रतिभेने झेप घेऊन ह्या नाटकाला अत्यंत जीवघेणी आर्तता मिळवून दिली आहे. यातील गणपतराव बेलवलकर ह्या वृद्ध नटाचे आणि त्यांचे ‘सरकार’ कावेरी यांचे व्यक्तिचित्रण अनेक कलावंतांना मोह पाडणारे आहे आणि गेली चाळीसहून अधिक वर्षे अनेक जड ते जिद्दीने रंगभूमीवर आणत आहेत.

‘साहित्य अकादमी’ पुरस्कार मिळालेले हे केकामेव नाटक. ‘मराठीतील सर्वात वाचले, अभ्यासले गेलेले नाटक’ असे याचे वर्णन केल्यास ते अतिशयोक्त ठरू नये. ‘नटसम्राट’ची मोहिनी फक्त मराठी वाचकांनाच वाटलेली नाही त्यामुळेच ह्या नाटकाचे अनेक भाषांतून अनुवाद प्रसिद्ध झाले आहेत.
