Charchaughi

“प्रशांत दळवी यांचे ‘चारचौघी’ हे मराठीतले एक मोठे नाटक आहे. नाटकाचा विषय अगदी चाकोरीबाहेरचा, वास्तवाच्या गाभ्याला हात घालणारा आणि म्हणूनच धक्कादायक आहे. ‘चारचौघी’ नाटक एखाद्या विचारवंताच्या हाती एक नीरस, वैचारिक चऱ्हाट झाले असते, पण प्रशांत दळवींची नाटककार म्हणून ताकद मोठी आहे. विवाहसंस्था ही केवळ समाजधारणा करणारी एक सामाजिक संस्था नाही तर दोन स्वतंत्र व्यक्तीं मधला तो अत्यंत व्यक्तिगत स्वरूपाचा, नाजूक करार आहे याचे भान नाटककार विसरलेला नाही. त्यामुळे सखोल वैवाहिक समस्यांनी घेरलेल्या जिवंत, रसरशीत व्यक्तिरेखा असे मोठे मनोरम रूप नाटकाने धारण केले आहे. मला तर या नाटकाचे पहिले दोन अंक युजीन ओनीलच्या लिखाणाची आठवण करून देतात. – डॉ. श्रीराम लागू “Charchaughi by Prashant Dalvi is a great play in Marathi. The subject matter of the play is out of the ordinary, touching the core of reality and therefore shocking. The play 'Charchaughi' would have been a monotonous, ideological romp in the hands of an intellectual, but Prashant Dalvi's strength as a playwright is great. The dramatist has not forgotten that marriage is not only a social institution but a very personal and delicate contract between two independent persons. Hence, the drama takes on a large, charming form of a lively, juicy character surrounded by deep marital problems.
