About the Book: - The purpose of this book is to provide a clear and crisp account of the evolution of Hindi literature. It starts with a chapter on the hindi language and general survey of hindi literature. It begins it contents with the early bardic chronicles (1150-1400), the Bhakti poets (1400-1550), the influence of the mugal court on the literature 1550-1800, the successors of kabir 1550-1800, the cult of Krishna (1550-1800) Bardic and other literature (1550-1880) the modern period 1800. The book ends by offering remarks of the characteristics of hindi literature. The book is a reprint of the 1920 edition. The book has a map that gives the language distribution in Northern India. About the Author: - John Stanley Melville Keay is a British historian, journalist, radio presenter and lecturer specialising in popular histories of India, the Far East and China, often with a particular focus on their colonisation and exploration by Europeans. In particular, he is widely seen as a pre-eminent historian of British India. He is known both for stylistic flair and meticulous research into archival primary sources, including centuries-old unpublished sources. The author of some twenty-five books, he also writes regularly for a number of prominent publications in Britain and Asia. He began his career with The Economist. He has received several major honours including the Sir Percy Sykes Memorial Medal. In 2019, he received an Honorary Doctorate, presented by Princess Anne, from the University of the Highlands and Islands in Scotland.
